Elder Selection 2025
The elders of Preston Road Church of Christ (PRCC) are chosen through a congregational process that ensures they meet biblical qualifications (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9) and have demonstrated shepherding qualities. Both new elders and current elders seeking reaffirmation go through this process. The current process has been shaped by past PRCC processes and by input and best practices derived from ACU’s Siburt Institute.
Facilitation Committee
The process is led by a facilitation committee, chaired by Larry Pearson. Other members are as follows:

How the Process Works
Nominations (Feb. 16 – Mar. 2)
- All church members are invited to nominate men they believe meet the biblical and personal qualifications for eldership.
- Nomination forms will be provided and must be signed by the person submitting them.
Discernment (March – April)
- After the standing elders review the nominations, the facilitation committee chair enlists the rest of the team to begin the discernment process with candidates.
- Nominees go through a time of self-reflection and prayer.
- They receive orientation on elder responsibilities and expectations.
- The current elders and Facilitation Committee will assess nominations to ensure candidates meet the criteria.
Congregational Affirmation (Apr. 13-20)
- The final list of elder candidates (including the current elders) is shared with the congregation.
- Members submit affirmation forms, voting “YES,” “NO,” or “UNSURE” for each candidate.
- A candidate must receive strong congregational support to be appointed.
New Elders Announcement (April 27)
- The new slate of elders is announced.
May or June (TBD)
- A worship service will include an element to affirm and install the newly selected elders.
